Getting the message

As part of our topic, Getting the message, in art this week we studied the beautiful art of calligraphy.

We started by learning about what calligraphy is, and at how important it is to Chinese culture. We also took this opportunity to learn a little about how the Chinese language is written in characters.

We then used internet tools to translate our names into Chinese characters. After a bit of practise, we used Chinese-style brushes and black ink to paint the characters. We then engraved our own stamps and used this to create the red seals, which depict characters for adjectives that describe us.
