Admissions

Welcome to Woolmore Primary School. We are a 3-form entry primary school from Reception to Year 6. In addition to this, Woolmore has 2 Nursery classes for 3-4 year old children.

We welcome all children at Woolmore and encourage applications from families with 3-11 year old children, in the immediate vicinity and beyond. We encourage parents interested in applying for a place at Woolmore to visit the school. To arrange a visit please contact us by email or between 8am and 4pm on 020 7987 2778.

Admissions to Nursery (3-4 year olds)

At Woolmore, we have up to 52 full-time places available in our Nursery.

If your child was born between 1st September 2023 and 31st August 2024, your child will be eligible for a nursery place starting in September 2027.

We have just one intake of nursery children every September. We believe that children develop more secure relationships and greater confidence when they start and end the year together.

How to apply

You can apply for a nursery place through the e-admissions portal. The closing date for this is 14th February 2027. For a guide to using e-admissions, please click here.

30 hours funding

We require working parents to apply for a 30 hours code via Childcare Choices. The funding we receive from successful applications allows us to continue our offer of up to 52 full-time places. It is a requirement of our admissions process to ask for this.

Child’s birthday when you can start to claim:

1 January to 31 March - the beginning of term or after 1 April

1 April to 31 August - the beginning of term or after 1 September

1 September to 31 December - the beginning of term or after 1 January

Accepting an offer

Tower Hamlets’ Pupil Services will notify you of the outcome of your application by email on 7th May 2027 if you applied before the deadline.

You must accept or decline the offer of a place by 21st May 2027, directly with Woolmore. If you do not reply by 26th May 2026 the offer will be withdrawn.

Admissions to Reception (4-5 year olds)

Pupils usually start primary school in the September following their fourth birthday. If your child was born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023, your child will be eligible for a Reception place starting in September 2027.

We have three Reception classes (90 spaces available).

Please be aware that a place in our Nursery does not guarantee a place in our reception. Parents must apply for a Reception place separately via the e-admissions portal.

How to apply

You can apply for a place in our Reception through the e-admissions portal. The closing date for this is 15th January 2027.

Applying online is a simple process and you can easily make changes to your application up until the closing date.

Important dates to remember

  • From 1st September 2026 - Make your application online
  • 15th January 2027 - Closing date to make applications
  • 16th April 2027 - Reception Offer day
  • You must accept or decline the offer of a place by 30th April 2027. Parents should confirm acceptance directly with the school.

Admissions to other year groups

Woolmore is a popular school and most year groups are full, but due to children occasionally moving out of the area, we sometimes have spaces in year groups throughout the school. We encourage parents to contact us and join our waiting list.

Moving to secondary school

If you live in Tower Hamlets and your child is in Year 6 (born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016), you will need to make an online application via the eadmissions portalfor them to transfer to secondary school in September 2027. For a guide to using the eadmissions portal, click here. The closing date for making applications is midnight on 31st October 2026.

Banding

Banding is used at secondary transfer to help to ensure that secondary schools maintain a balanced admission intake. This should reflect the full range of abilities of all children in the local authority.

Every child who applies must sit a cognitive ability test (CAT). The results are used to group applications into four ability bands (quartiles). For administrative purposes, the quartiles are referred to as Band A, B, C, and D. The results are not published at any stage during the transfer to secondary school process.

In the case of oversubscription, secondary schools will take an equal amount of pupils from each quartile, ensuring that children from all abilities have equality of access.
